Caitie McNamara is a self-proclaimed theatre fanatic. Beginning her theatre career at age 7, it seems she has spent more time on stage than off. She began acting in Santa Monica, Ca as a kid, and found a home in her high school theatre department. The Santa Monica High School theatre department emphasized Stanislovski's techniques. As well as acting on stage in high school, she also worked behind the scenes with set construction, lights, sound, stage managing, and directing. She briefly tried some television acting, but strongly disagreed with the standards of physical appearance espoused by much of the industry, and thus, felt an even stronger connection to theatre.
Caitie moved on to Mills College in Oakland, Ca, where Caitie and her associates ran the theatre program. Caitie had the opportunity to act, produce, direct, advertise, design sets, and experience all of the aspects of running a theatre group. Most recently she both directed and acted in a production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile by Steve Martin.
Caitie has studied many different types of dance over the years, including ballet, hip hop, jazz, and Broadway, and finds great joy in expressive movement. She studied voice intensively with Glenn Carlos in Santa Monica for 4 years.
Caitie has worked for years with Kids on Stage, an exciting kids theatre program located in Santa Monica. Starting as a student herself, she later became an instructor and relished the opportunity to share what she herself had learned as a student in the program.
Caitie is beyond thrilled to be the artistic director and head instructor
of Playground Theatre Company.
